Collection: Sodalite Crystal

Sodalite is a rich royal blue mineral widely enjoyed as an ornamental gemstone. It is a type of tectosilicate and member of the sodalite group with hauyne, nosean, lazurite, and tugtupite. Discovered in 1811 in Greenland, sodalite did not become popular as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits were found in Ontario, Canada. Known for its vibrant blue color, it is not only prized as a gemstone but also used in various industrial applications. Despite its hardness (5.5-6 on the Mohs scale), sodalite is often fashioned into beads and cabochons due to its relatively uniform color and lack of cleavage.
